Job Title : Nurse Practitioner - Cardiology

General Summary of duties : Provides health care to patients acting as a mid-level clinician in a free-standing cardiology multi-specialty medical practice following established standards and practices. Works in a dependent relationship with a supervising physician to provide comprehensive medical care to patients. The major services provided by the ARNP include evaluation, monitoring, diagnostics, Therapeutics, counseling and referral. Reports to work fifteen minutes to prior to scheduled patient appointments. Nurse Practitioner will work in a progressive, interventional cardiology practice with state of the art equipment. Practice active with Pacemaker Clinic, Nuclear Medicine, Cardiac PET/CT, CTA & Ultrasound department. Individual must have Master's degree with good cardiac background Individual would be expected to play an integral role in all services. Practice also involved with several research programs.
Supervision Received : Reports to Practice Administrator and Medical Director.
Supervision Exercised : Directional for Clinical Staff.
Duties :
  • Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients in and ambulatory and inpatient setting.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
  • Performs a complete physical exam and records findings. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Administers medications and injections according to physician direction. Sutures minor lacerations.
  • Interviews and  advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results.
  • Triages patient telephone call and provides consultation.
  • Manages medical and surgical emergencies.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • Attends required meetings an participates in committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Provides after hour back-up call in accordance with schedule and holiday's; utilizing the primary supervision of the physician.
  • Performs all assigned duties in an outpatient, modalities and inpatient setting.
  • Other assigned duties in accordance with the needs of the organization.
Education : Graduate of an accredited university. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program.
Certificate/License: Possession of a State Registered Nurse license/ ARNP certification.
Experience : 2 years preferred in a cardiac environment.

Skill in taking medical history to assess medical condition and interpret findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing report and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communication clearly.
Typical Physical Demands : Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to communicable disease and bodily fluids. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
Typical Working conditions : Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
